Gallery - Grinders: Inline mounting
Inline grinders are typically mounted in a vertical position - motor & reducer on top - but in situations where piping is tight they can be mounted sideways or even upsidedown. Here are some pictures of some installations.
Upside down
This grinder is in a corrections application where the existing piping runs close to the ceiling. The solution: an upside down grinder.

Manhole installation
Inline grinders in manholes are an alternative to open channel grinders for gravity flow. Just make sure to make the manhole big enough for both you and the grinder and have the access over the grinder to make it easy to lift out the cutter cartridge if necessary.

Platform
The weight of the grinder needs to be supported by pipestands or a platform under the base of the unit. In order to remove the cutter cartridge in this installation the drive (motor & reducer) is removed (4 bolts), and then the cutter cartridge is lifted into the space formerly occupied by the drive.

Sideways installation
Although it is a little more difficult to remove the cutter cartridge for servicing when the grinder is mounted sideways, sometimes it is the only way to fit it into the existing structure.
